The Munāfiqūn (hypocrites) were a group of people who did not have the courage to openly oppose the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam feeling that it would be unfavourable in their favour if they wished to find a way of overpowering the Muslims. They felt that they had to wait for the right moment and opportunity to present itself before they made their move, and this is what we witness throughout the course of action they took. Allāh Subhanahu wa ta’ala then revealed verses alerting the believers in unveiling the truth about their presence and the hypocrisy they concealed within their hearts.

Sūrah Munāfiqūn explains the true traits of the hypocrites during the time of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, warning the believers to take precaution from their treacherous behaviours.
