The shuruh of hadith by the ulama of India are widely-acclaimed and valued by ulama. This sharh, by a master muhaddith and faqih, Salam Allah ad-Dihlawi (d. 1233 ah) is no exception.

One could go through the dirasah of the muhaqqiq for a list of the various salient characteristics of this sharh or read through the half a dozen taqariz on the book by senior ulama, however it seems that this book stands out for two reasons:
• The author seems to have had amazing ittila’ on the works before him, especially on muhaqqaq shuruh of hadith. He thus brings the khulasah of the tahqiqqat of the research scholars before him, always quoting masters like Ibn Hajr, Ibn Daqiq al-‘Id etc. So, while this sharh isn’t as detailed as others like Awjaz, you get everything you require here, which makes it ideal for those who don’t have the time to study lengthy shuruh
• The manhaj of the author seems very similar to Ml Abd al-Hayy al-Laknawi, who came after him. When bringing adillah or replies to ahadith, he critically examines each dalil and reply, whether it is for his madhab or against and often points out the issues with it.

This is an important sharh on the Muatta, just printed for the first time. The importance of it could be gauged from the fact that nearly all the hawashi on the Indian prints of the Muatta are taken from this sharh.

Edited using 6 manuscripts, most sourced from libraries that are really difficult to deal with, this is a beautiful high-quality edition.

While Maktabah Ismaeel from the UK is relatively a newcomer to the publishing of Arabic Books, they are at the forefront of printing the works of our ulama and producing well-edited, high-quality editions. May Allah Ta’ala reward them greatly for their service.

• أنه شرح ممزوج مع متن الحديث ولفظ السند، فيشرحه شرحًا حرفيًّا، ليسهل على الناظر هضمه وتعاطيه، ويدرك قوادمه وخوافيه.
• أنه أوفى شرح للموطأ حديثًا وفقهًا ولغةً، وقد زدتُ في الهامش شرحًا بسيطًا لكل باب من الكتاب من غير إخلال وإطناب.
• أن المؤلف اختار منهجًا علميًّا، وشرح الكتاب بأسلوب واضح غير مُعَقّد بعبارة فصيحة سَلِسَة، وبخُطّة سهلة متوسطة، فلا هو إيجاز مُخِلّ، ولا إطناب مُمِلّ.
• أنه ربما ينبّه على الألفاظ الواردة في الأمهات السِّت من رواية لفظ الحديث؛ لكي يقف الناظر على شرحه بوضوح وجلاء، ويتسنّى له ترجيح بعضها على بعض من غير خفاء.
• أنه يذكر أحيانًا اختلاف ألفاظ الحديث الواردة في نسخ «الموطأ» المتعددة، هذا وقد زدتُ عليها كثيرًا عند المقارنة لتعم الفائدة.
• أنه أحيانًا في غضون شرحه للسند يتكلم عن رجاله بكلام موجز من جرح وتعديل ؛ إيقاظاً للناظر على درجة الحديث .
• أنه يستوفي بيان المذاهب الأربعة وما عداها في المسائل الخلافية، من كتب موثوقة عند أهلها؛ لكي يطمئن كل من انتسب إلى أحد من الأئمة المتبوعين على بصيرة .
• أنه يذكر أدلة المذاهب تارة بالاستقصاء، وتارة بالتلخيص؛ حسب ما اقتضاه المقام.
• أنه يعتمد في شرح الحديث على جهابذة شراح الحديث وأئمة الفقة، كما بيّنه مفصّلًا في آخر الشرح.
• أنه يذكر أحيانًا في شرح الحديث بعد استيفاء أقوال الشارحين المحدثين ما تلقاه من أعلام أسرته وعلى الأخص من إفادات جده الشيخ عبد الحق بن سيف الدين بن سعد اللَّه البخاري الحنفي، المحدث الدهلوي، المولود بدهلي في الهند سنة (٩٥٨هـ) والمتوفى بها سنة (١٠٥٢هـ) رحمه اللَّه تعالى رحمة واسعة.
